TAS LIBERAL PARTY COMMIT TO SUPPORTING RECREATIONAL HUNTING

Dear members and friends,

With the Tasmanian State Election now set in place for May 1st, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Minister Barnett and his Liberal Party team for their continued support of recreational hunting, fishing, and other traditional Tasmanian outdoors activities.

As you would be aware, the Tasmanian Deer Advisory Committee (TDAC) and its member groups have worked extremely hard to support the Government led initiatives relating to both Game and browsing wildlife management in Tasmania.

Prior to the 2018 State Election, a re-elected Liberal Party committed to deliver several key points raised by hunting groups. These included:

  • Ongoing support for the principles of Quality Deer Management (QDM).

  • Provide opportunities for regulated hunting on public land.

  • Improve stakeholder engagement for Game and browsing wildlife management.

  • Reject the request to amend crop protection permits to allow for the commercialisation of wild deer.

  • A commitment to support and protect traditional Tasmanian pastimes.

Without doubt, The Liberal party have delivered on most of these commitments and the TDAC congratulates them on their achievements.

In a statement released on April 24th, a re-elected Liberal Government has pledged to continue the support of recreational hunting and commit to the following:

  • Fund an independent report into the economic and social benefits that hunting, and shooting provides to Tasmania.

  • Support the current gazetted hunting seasons for both Game and browsing wildlife.

  • Ensure that the TDAC is regarded as the leading advisory group to the State Government on deer related matters.

The TDAC encourages every Tasmanian hunter to visit the Tas Liberal’s web site and read the media release in its entirety.

As a proud Tasmanian hunter and fisher, I strongly believe we need a committed majority Government that places a value on our traditional Tasmanian activities. I ask that you remember this when placing your vote on May 1st.

Kind Regards,

Andrew Winwood - 0413999279 Chairman

Tasmanian Deer Advisory Committee Inc.
