Dear members, friends and fellow hunters,
The Draft Deer Plan released on Friday afternoon requires your feedback.
Whilst there are some aspects of the Draft Plan that we wholeheartedly support, such as the importance of removing satellite deer herds from the landscape, there are negatives that recreational hunters need to understand and contribute feedback.
The document makes the suggestion that Quality Deer Management is an important tool for landowners yet will also allow for rut hunting, unlimited buck harvest, open seasons, reduced animal welfare outcomes and no tagging requirements in the traditional herd at the landowners discretion.
Currently this document is a draft Department Plan, that will require some changes to be aligned with the Government’s commitment, “that Male deer will not be affected” and is clearly misaligned to QDM principles of Deer management.
The TDAC are meeting at Ross on the 19th November at 7.30pm and I encourage everyone to attend.
I suggest that everyone reads the plan as soon as possible and gets the dialogue flowing by emailing your thoughts and don’t forget to ‘reply to all’ so we can hash out a plan before the next meeting.
Please forward this to all of your hunting contacts.
Regards TDAC Chair Andrew
